Two weeks ago, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum threatened to “mobilize” against the US. This was after Trumps announcement of taxes on remittences (funds sent back to Mexico by migrants living in the US).

Already in January 2025; Mexican Senate President Gerardo Fernández Noroña called for Mexico to reclaim parts of the United States, citing an 1830 map. He disregarded the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo of 1848, after Mexico lost the war and sold the territory to the US. When people say Mexicans living in the US, even for generations, are ‘our’ people in “our” land, they mean it.
